Local weekly newspaper The Apline Sun featured a photo about Sacred Rocks GeoCaching Easter Egg Hunt on their front page as an intro to the article "Geocaching Hunt offers a teamwork challenge in the great outdoors" in the 9 April 2009 issue.

A different kind of Easter Hunt...

Chad Doran, 12, shows off his safety pin, loaded with various treasures he collected during the Easter "Egg" Hunt at Sacred Rocks Reserve last weekend. Participants used GPS devices to locate geocache boxes that were hidden around the 163-acre reserve. After finding each cache, the hunter collected items or signed logs to prove that they has completed this part of the search...

"These guys love Easter egg hunts, but they’re getting a little too old for just running around and picking up eggs out of the grass — we needed more of a challenge," says Mary Gilbert of Imperial, Calif.

GeoCaching Easter Egg Treasure Hunt
Saturday 4 April 2009
10:00 AM - 12 noon

Geocaching symbolGeo-Caching at Sacred Rocks Reserve is a fun way to spend time by yourself or with your loved ones in the great outdoors.

"Geocaching is an outdoor treasure-hunting game in which the participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver or other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers (called 'geocaches' or 'caches') anywhere in the world. A typical cache is a small waterproof container containing a logbook and 'treasure', usually toys or trinkets of little value." (from the Wikipedia entry)

Our 2-hour Geocaching Easter Egg Hunt should give everyone ample time to find the many edible one-time Easter treat caches. Great fun for your kids! You'll need a GPS receiver or something like iPhone that has one built in. Eat lunch at noon, then stay a little longer to find a regular cache.
