Sacred Rocks Reserve

History of Sacred Rocks Reserve

A slice of paradise, if you have eyes to see it, only an hour from San Diego, 45 minutes from Imperial Valley and you may just step out of your life for a time.

2008: Name Change to Sacred Rocks

Sacred Rocks signIn September 2008 the name officially changed to Sacred Rocks Reserve from Outdoor World RV Park. The 163-acre Reserve encompasses a 3800-foot high terrain of hills, jumbo rocks, river bed, forest of mighty oak trees. People who visit can see changes in seasons, flowers bloom even when there is little rain, wildlife in 3D. It also encompasses Sacred Rocks RV Park, Sacred Rocks Mountain Homes, Sacred Rocks Retreat, Sacred Rocks Artists' Colony, and Sacred Rocks Events. The land, the trees, the rocks and the wildlife were here before this.

2003: Massive Clean-up

Outdoor Worldtruck hauling junkPurchased in January 2003, by Dimitri & Sharon Courmousis, who have been bringing this Reserve back into the beautiful place it is today. It was a disaster. 80 tons of trash were hauled away over the course of 18 months. Buildings were remodeled, sites were modernized, pool & spa were added. Scumbag tenants were strongly encouraged to move out. The land, the trees, the rocks and the wildlife were here before this.

1975: Outdoor World RV Park

1972 signIn 1975, the park was purchased by a doctor and his wife, who named it Outdoor World RV Park. Some buildings were constructed, a couple of houses, but nothing major. People were already coming up for the summer from Imperial Valley and Yuma. The land, the trees, the rocks and the wildlife were here before this.

1972: Bob's Wagonland

Originally built in 1972, the RV park was intended to be a get-away for nature enthusiasts from Hollywood. It was called Bob's Wagonland after a TV personality who had a wildlife animal show. It never took off beyond the building of the campsites. The land, the trees, the rocks and the wildlife were here before this.

1960s

Passing through a series of owners, in the 1960s a man built fencing for horses. He dug every posthole, by hand. And even today you can still see remnants of that fence. The land, the trees, the rocks and the wildlife were here before this.

1800s and earlier

split rocksBack in time, to the 1800s, there was a building made from thick adobe that is said to be a stagecoach stop. And today [although leased to a private group] you can see those old walls, inside of the brick house in the middle of the Reserve. The land, the trees, the rocks and the wildlife were here before this.

We think about our history:

  • The California Gold Rush
  • The settling of California by Spanish landowners
  • The War of 1812
  • The Revolution 1776
  • The pilgrim setters in the 1600s

The land, the trees, the rocks and the wildlife were here before this.

The Grandmother Oak Tree is believed to be over 500 years old!

In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue.

The land, the trees, the rocks and the wildlife were here before this.

We have been made stewards, caretakers, of this beautiful land and intend to fulfill this sacred trust with every effort we undertake. We hope that people today as well as people in future generations will continue to explore and play and unwind with each visit to Sacred Rocks Reserve.
